Welp, I know I promised to bring the comic back before the last day of fall, but… I failed. The long hours I’ve been putting in at my day job lately just don’t leave me with much left over. I’ve been making steady progress on the next batch of pages, but it wasn’t enough.

For now, you’ll have to settle for this piece of Dust ’n Dread fan art that I made for the comic’s Draw This In Your Style competition. Between this, and the cover for Chapter 10, I feel like I’ve been getting better at hard shading.

Anyway, the comic’s return is getting close. Just need a few more weeks. Bear with me. 

All right, the comic is taking a summer break! As I mentioned at the beginning of the chapter, even with the help of a colorist, I’m still not at a point where I can turn around a page every week, due to a demanding day job and other commitments like my animated short film. And thus, occasional breaks like this are the inevitable result.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy to have finally been able to get back to doing weekly updates, and I continue to work on making this comic’s production more sustainable/efficient. But until I get there, I’ll keep needing to step back and recharge the buffer from time to time.

While we wait the story to continue, however, I do have something fairly impressive to share: the trailer for The Ottoman, the animated short film that this comic was spun off from. Yes, my film is finally finished and ready to begin submitting to film festivals. Perhaps it’ll play in a city near you! So please enjoy the trailer for this animated short film that took me over a decade to make, and I’ll see you in the fall.

Your eyes do not deceive you, this is indeed a weekly update! Today marks an auspicious collaboration with Bicycle Boy artist Jackarais, who will be handling coloring duties for the comic, allowing me to focus exclusively on penciling and inking. A faster update schedule is the result.

However.

As much as I'd love to announce that the comic will be posting weekly forevermore, the truth is that I’m still very overloaded with commitments from my day job and post-production on my animated short film. I’ll continue to draw as fast as I can, but it’s likely that the comic will still need to take breaks every few months so that Jack and I can re-buffer.

Those caveats aside, this is a fantastic new era that should benefit us all. I get a lighter workload, and you get more frequent updates and better colors. Everyone’s a winner!

Everybody’s mechs got exploded, so The Automan’s Daughter is now just a comic about people being sad. Sad that their mechs exploded.

All right! The comic is now on hiatus, while I wrap up post-production on my animated short film, and also prep the older comic pages for vertical-scroll format. More announcements on those projects once they’re ready. In the meantime, feast your eyes on this incredible poster by renowned illustrator Kim Hu!

I hope you enjoyed Goliath! I’ve always wanted to do a more action-driven side story, and this was a great chance to indulge in some mech-on-mech mayhem. Please give a big hand to Reda for his incredible artwork!
