Dang, kind of a bummer of an ending.
But we made it! The ninth chapter I’ve written, and the second one I’ve drawn. My sixtieth page!
And with that, we turn to…
ANNOUNCEMENT OF IMPENDING HIATUS
But not just yet! I’ve commissioned a very cool side-story that will run for a few months, after which the real hiatus will begin. And this isn’t a mere “I’m burned out, need to rebuild my buffer” kind of hiatus. I genuinely need to shift focus to a bunch of Automan’s Daughter-adjacent projects that require my full attention.
The first one is the mirroring of this comic over at one or more of the vertical-scrolling comic platforms, in a shameless attempt to broaden its audience. This is much easier said than done, what with the comic’s almost entirely (some would say inexplicably) horizontal panel format. But the market has spoken. Please rest assured that this website will remain the primary vehicle for the “real” version of the comic, but for enjoyers of tall, skinny comics with huge letters, someday soon you’ll have another one.
The second is the animated short film “The Ottoman,” from which this comic was spawned. I’ve been chipping away at this film for a quarter of my life, and the end is finally in sight. The film is deep into post-production now, with sound design and scoring work slated to begin this summer. I’ve always done my best to juggle the demands of the comic and the film, but now I need to really drag this thing to the finish line. (I plan to start posting updates on the film’s progress on social media, if you want to see how it’s going.)
And finally…
Folks, I just really need this comic to update weekly. All my attempts to find a colorist or some other form of assistance have crashed and burned so far, but one chapter a year is not cutting it. Especially not if mirroring the comic elsewhere succeeds in growing its audience. I don’t know what it’s going to take, but I know that when this comic returns from hiatus, I want it to be weekly.
As always, thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoyed this chapter!
